Medical Director

Wayne L. Creelman, M.D., was appointed McCabe Clinical Eminent Scholar Chair in Psychiatry and Community Mental Health in March 2009. He is Board Certified in both General Psychiatry and Medical Management and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has been awarded Masters’ degrees in Medical Management, Business Administration and Theological Studies.

Dr. Creelman has had a stellar career with more years of exemplary practice of Community Psychiatry, mentoring, teaching excellence, scholarship, community service and actual hands-on experience than any other applicants for the position. He has business and managerial experience and clearly has developed, managed and grown large psychiatric departments.  He is a former department of psychiatry chairman and has held numerous elected posts in our profession as well as in his community. His task is to make the UF Center for Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine Vero Beach the best teaching, training, and treatment center in South Florida.

Dr. Creelman has met extensively with community leaders, physicians and mental health professionals in Indian River County to develop relationships and promote the Center and its mission. He is currently involved in developing the Child and Adolescent, Addictions, and Community fellowship training program in Vero Beach and has been instrumental in the Indian River County’s decision to support complete and universal access to the UF Center for all of the County’s residents.

He is an accomplished author, popular teacher, strong administrator, and an excellent clinician with a lifelong commitment to mental health advocacy.

Faculty

Bob Bartucci, M.D. is our full time Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist and is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at UF. He is well known at UF since he was a General Psychiatry Resident, Child & Adolescent Fellow, and served as an Assistant Professor, teacher and mentor in the University of Florida’s Department of Psychiatry. Since leaving UF, Bob has been a Medical Director of Suncoast Mental Health Center and Charlotte Community Mental Health as well as a Children’s Diagnostic and Evaluation Unit Director and held other positions in the Public Psychiatry sector.

Bob is exceptionally well-trained in Medicine and Board Certified in Geriatric Psychiatry. He is the author or co-author of 5 peer reviewed papers mostly dealing with children and Child Psychiatry and is a well-respected expert for the Florida Department of Health’s Board of Medicine in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry for the communities he has lived and worked in. Bob will supervise Child Fellows in Vero Beach and provide much-needed Child & Adolescent evaluations and treatment to the Residents of Indian River County.

Alan Barnes, M.D. is a Clinical Associate Professor currently working as an adult psychiatrist, mentor, and teacher in both Gainesville and Vero Beach. Depending on the growth in his practice, he has agreed to move to Vero Beach where he can provide expert Psychiatric and Psychotherapeutic treatment. Dr. Barnes was the Director of Psychiatric Services at the Student Mental Health Service of the University of Florida from February 1994 to February 2002 and before that had a similar position at Johns Hopkins where he helped guide the development of the psychiatric staff and the services offered. Dr. Barnes has been a long-standing member of the Task Force on National Health Objectives in Higher Education and has served as both President and Chair of the Mental Health Section of the American College Health Association.

Dr. Barnes has a special interest in developmental issues of young adults, sexuality and sexual dysfunctions, mood disorders, and social anxiety. He has been particularly attentive to the problem of Social Phobia (Social Anxiety Disorder), a fairly common, but often overlooked condition and has been a fixture at the University of Florida as the go-to therapist for many Faculty and their families for decades.  

William Leach, M.D. is the Assistant Director of Addiction Medicine at the Center and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Florida. He will be responsible for outpatient evaluation of patients  and families with substance abuse disorders and process addictions.

Dr. Leach recently completed a fellowship with the University of Florida in Addiction Medicine. He was promoted to be the principle physician leader responsible for the medical evaluation and comprehensive  addiction medical care of all patients in two adult detoxification units, two long-term residential treatment units and a 125-bed adolescent long-term residential treatment unit. He was also responsible for the care of pre- and post pregnant recovering women in a separate facility.

Dr. Leach has extensive experience in initial evaluations, psychiatric counseling, caring for patients with acute and chronic medical conditions with ongoing attention to all problems requiring the expertise of an experienced Family Practitioner and Addiction Medicine physician. He is also experienced in the management of chronic pain.

Dr. Leach attended medical school at the University of Florida and completed his residency in Family Practice at Central Maine Medical Center. He began his career as a Lt. Commander in the US Public Health Service in Tanana, Alaska.  He is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine.

Peter Gold, PsyD a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of Florida, has been working in the field of Psychology and Mental Health services for over twenty years. Dr. Gold is an Assistant Professor in the University of Florida’s College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. He regularly provides neurobehavioral assessments, short-term psychotherapy, patient/family education and hospital consultations with a diagnostically diverse patient population.
 
Dr. Gold is a registrant of the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He maintains memberships with the American Psychological Association, Florida Psychological Association, Psychologists in Independent Practice (APA Division 42), National Academy of Neuropsychology, International Neuropsychological Society, Broward County Mental Health Association, and the University of Florida Alumni Association.

He has been active in the Governor's Task Force and Community Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, State of Florida Department of Education, Governor's Task Force on Addiction, Broward County Sheriff’s Office Organized Crime Division, Palm Beach County Mental Health Association, Dade County Grand Jury Testimony, Good Samaritan Hospital, Charter Glades Hospital, Cedars Medical Center and numerous other health care symposia.  Dr. Gold has been invited to lecture to State and National Groups, has been an expert quoted in the media and has appeared on various national television news programs. He has provided consultation and information to a wide variety of other broadcast and print medium, including Newsweek, Time, Florida Trend, South Florida Business Journal, Gainesville Sun, Miami Herald, Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, Boca Raton News, Tampa Tribune, and the Orlando Sentinel. He is working as a senior clinician at Vero Beach providing testing, prescribed Psychotherapy and Family evaluation and treatment. He is expected to be full-time in Vero Beach over time.

Daniel Tucker, M.D., is the Clinical Chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UF. Board Certified in Psychiatrist and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Dr Tucker has an abiding interest in child, adolescent, young adult, and adult psychotherapy.

Dr Tucker received his medical degree from the University of Florida and served his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Louisville. He then continued with his training by completing a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship there in 1979.

Dr Tucker was an Assistant Professor at the Yale University School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and Yale Child Study Center from 2001-2004. This training added research interests and important findings to a career of teaching and clinical care. He became a Founder of Neurobehavioral Services and then Clinical Director of Brain Injury, Autism, and Mental Retardation programs in Louisville.

Staff

Terry Moore, MBA is the Administrative Project Manager for the Center. She is coordinating clinical care, education, faculty recruitment and community relations. Please feel free to email  her with any suggestions, comments, etc.

Stacie Roche is our office manager. She previously managed the Indian River Medical Center’s Outpatient Clinic. With ten years’ experience in the health care industry, she’ll be coordinating mental health services with the local schools and the area’s psychiatric treatment facilities.

Shari Brown comes from the Indian River Medical Center Behavioral Health Center. Shari has considerable experience in billing. She will be working to develop treatment scholarships and charity care. You'll meet Shari at reception and she'll be scheduling your visits.
